Sushi when pregnant?

Sushi Bar+Wine has a lot of pregnant customers, each of whom has their own take on the official recommendations. We respect everyone’s choices, and to make it easier to think through our menu, we’ve put together some additional information here to help. Our staff are also happy to help you with your choices, both on-site at the restaurant and over the phone!

If you are pregnant, please note that our staff do not dictate what you can and cannot eat when you are pregnant, as it is up to each pregnant woman to decide how to follow the official recommendations. The Food and Veterinary Office is the expert on official recommendations. If necessary, our staff will help you to find the items on our menu that you feel are best suited to your pregnancy. We have put together these tips to help you make your choices based on what is most often asked about our ingredients!

  • Vegetable products are mostly perceived as suitable as such.
  • We use pasteurised Philadelphia cream cheese.
  • The crab is delivered to us vacuum-packed.
  • Tiger crab does not come vacuum packed and we cook it on the spot until it is cooked through. The California mack can be had for an additional €1 on tiger prawns instead of ebi-crab if desired. The extra charge is due to the fact that we use slightly more tiger prawns than ebi to fill the roll.
  • For noodle rolls with rice on the outside, we use half a sheet of seaweed per roll. For noodle rolls with seaweed on the outside, use one sheet per roll.
  • On request, we can grill all the grilled items on our menu welldone. However, we dare not promise that everything will be fully cooked, as we grill under a live flame, which can burn the surface before the fish or seafood is fully cooked inside.

Examples of products on our menu that pregnant women have found to be safe as they are:

  • All vegetable products
  • Prawn mousse maki
  • Chilli prawn gunkan nigiri
